The third session took the form of a masterclass centered on Tommy, a baroque and experimental film inspired by The Who’s rock opera. The guest, Laura Chollet—specialist in British cinema, rock, and counterculture—offered an in-depth analysis, highlighting the connections between cinema, music, and the artistic movements of the 1970s.
The discussion highlighted the film’s pop, burlesque, and deliberately grotesque aesthetic, as well as the reasons it continues to be perceived as a cinematic “UFO”: paradoxical accessibility, specific cultural grounding, and aesthetic audacity.

GuestLaura Chollet, who holds a Master’s degree in Film Studies and a Master’s in Audiovisual Heritage from INA, is also the author of a thesis on the relationship between British rock and the media.DateMarch 28, 2025Share
